Get just the audio from a Twitter video

Sometimes the picture doesn't matter: a podcast clip, an interview, a speech, a song someone posted. Downloading the whole video just to listen wastes space. Paste the tweet link here and you get an MP3 at 128kbps taken from the video's sound, ready for any music app or player.

The MP3 is made from the video's audio track, so it can only be as clear as the original. If the video was recorded on a phone in a noisy room, the MP3 will sound the same way.

How to convert a Twitter video to MP3

Unlike video downloads, the MP3 needs a few seconds of preparing first.
1

Copy the tweet link

Tap the share icon under the post with the video and pick Copy link.
2

Paste and tap Download

Paste the link into the box above and tap Download. You'll see a list of formats: the MP4 versions of the video, plus an MP3 row at the bottom.
3

Prepare and save the MP3

On the MP3 row, tap the blue Prepare button and wait while the progress counts up to 100%. When it's done, the button turns into a download, and you can save the file.

Good to know

  • Plays everywhere: MP3 opens on pretty much any phone, computer, car stereo or music app.
  • Much smaller than the video: Audio only takes up a fraction of the space, handy for long clips you just want to listen to.
  • Want the video too?: The same tweet can be saved as an MP4 in the quality you pick.

Why does the MP3 need preparing?

X doesn't store a separate audio file for its videos. The sound lives inside the video, so we have to pull it out and turn it into an MP3 first. That's what the Prepare step does. Short clips are ready in a few seconds; longer videos take a bit more. Keep the page open while it runs.

Listening on iPhone and Android

On iPhone, the MP3 is saved to the Files app (in Downloads). You can play it straight from there, but the Photos app doesn't take audio files, so it won't appear there. To add it to a music library, use an app that can import from Files.

On Android, the file lands in your Downloads folder and most music players will find it automatically.

When there's no MP3 option

The MP3 comes from a video's sound, so posts with only photos or text won't have one. Posts from protected accounts, deleted posts, and videos X only shows to logged-in users can't be converted either. Check the post in our X viewer if you're not sure what it contains.

Frequently Asked Questions

What quality is the MP3?

128kbps. That's plenty for speech, interviews and most casual listening. The original video's sound sets the real ceiling, so a higher bitrate wouldn't make a phone recording sound better.

I converted a GIF and the MP3 is silent. Why?

GIFs on X don't have sound. If you want the animation itself, use the Twitter GIF downloader instead.

The progress got stuck. What should I do?

Give it a little longer for long videos. If it still doesn't move, tap Download another video, paste the link again and retry. If it keeps failing on the same post, the video may no longer be available on X.

Can I download audio from X Spaces?

This tool works with posts that contain a video. Spaces are live audio rooms, not video posts, so they're not something it's built for.

Can I use the audio in my own videos?

Only if you have permission. Music and voice recordings belong to the people who made them, and reusing them without permission can get your own posts taken down.
