Download Twitter videos without the hassle

X lets you watch videos all day, but there's no save button for most people. This page fills that gap for public posts: paste the link and you get a list of the MP4 versions X has for that video. Pick one and it saves to your device.

The best quality you can get depends on what the person uploaded. If they posted in 1080p, you'll usually see a 1080p option. If they uploaded something small and blurry, no downloader can make it sharper.

Just want to watch it, not keep it? Our Twitter viewer plays the video without downloading anything.

How to download a Twitter video

Three steps, same on phone and computer.
1

Copy the tweet link

On X, tap the share icon under the post and pick Copy link. On a computer you can also copy the address bar. In a thread, make sure you copy the post that actually has the video, not the one above it.
2

Paste it and tap Download

Tap Paste in the box above (or press Ctrl+V / Cmd+V), then tap Download. The list of files shows up in a few seconds.
3

Pick a quality and save

Tap Download next to the quality you want. If a row says Prepare video instead, tap it, wait for the progress to hit 100%, then download.

What you can save

  • MP4 in more than one size: Choose from the resolutions X keeps for the video: small for sending in a chat, big for keeping or editing.
  • The cover image: When it's available, you can save the video's thumbnail as well.
  • GIFs: Those looping clips with a GIF badge have their own tool.
  • Just the audio: Only need the sound from an interview or a song clip? Grab it as an audio file.
  • Several tweets at once: Got a handful of links? Paste up to five and download them in one go.

Saving Twitter videos on iPhone

On iPhone, Safari doesn't put downloads straight into your Photos app. It saves them in the Files app first. Here's how to move the video over:

After you tap Download, tap the download icon in Safari's address bar and open Downloads. Tap the video to open it, tap the Share button, then choose Save Video. It'll show up in Photos under Recents.

Using Chrome on iPhone? Tap Open in… when the download finishes, then Save Video. If you missed it, the file is in the Files app under On My iPhone > Chrome.

Saving on Android and computers

On Android, the video lands in your Downloads folder and usually appears in your Gallery or Google Photos within a few seconds. If it doesn't, open the Files app and look in Downloads.

On a Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook, it goes to your normal Downloads folder. Open your browser's download list to find it fast.

Which quality should you pick?

Going to keep it, edit it, or watch it on a big screen? Take the highest option. Sending it in a chat or saving phone storage? A middle option like 720p looks fine on a phone and is a lot smaller. The lowest options are for slow connections. They're small, but you'll notice the blur.

When a video won't download

Most of the time it's one of these: the account is protected (padlock next to the name), the post was deleted, or X shows the video only to logged-in users, for example when it's marked as sensitive. None of these can be downloaded by a public tool.

Also check that the link points to a post with a real video. Links to a profile, or to a post that only quotes the video, won't work. And if the clip has a GIF badge, try the Twitter GIF downloader instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't there a 1080p option for my video?

Because X doesn't have one. You can only download the versions X stored when the video was posted. If the uploader posted in 720p or lower, that's the top option you'll see.

What does "Prepare video" mean?

Some versions of a video need a little processing on our side before they can be saved as one MP4 file. Tap Prepare video, wait for it to reach 100%, and the download button appears.

My downloaded video has no sound. What happened?

First, check the post on X: if it's a GIF or the video is silent there too, there's no sound to download. If it does have sound on X, try a different quality from the list, or use Prepare video if that row offers it.

Can I download a video from a private account?

No. Videos from protected accounts are only visible to followers the owner has approved, and no outside tool can get them. Be careful with any site that says otherwise and asks you to log in.

Will the person know I downloaded their video?

No. X doesn't notify people when their videos are saved by an outside tool, and you never log in to X here.

Is it legal to download Twitter videos?

Saving a public video to watch later is common, but the video still belongs to whoever made it. Reposting it, or using it in your own content or for business, without permission can break copyright law and X's rules. When in doubt, ask the creator. (This isn't legal advice.)
