DMCA & Copyright

How to report copyright infringement to XViewer: what to include in a DMCA notice, how we respond, and how to send a counter-notice.

How XViewer handles content

XViewer doesn't host posts, images or videos. When someone uses our tools, we retrieve public content from X at that moment and show it or pass the file to them. The original content stays on X.

That means there are two ways to deal with infringing content:

  • Report it to X, which removes the original post and stops it from being reachable anywhere, including through XViewer. X's copyright form is at https://help.x.com/forms/ipi
  • Send us a notice so we can review it and act on our side, for example by blocking specific post links from being processed by XViewer.

What to include in your notice

Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512), a notice must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature, or that of someone authorized to act for the copyright owner.
  2. A description of the copyrighted work you believe is being infringed.
  3. The exact URL(s) of the X posts involved, and how they're being reached through XViewer.
  4. Your name, postal address, phone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorized by the copyright owner, its agent or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you're the copyright owner or authorized to act for them.

Send it to contact@xviewer.to with "DMCA" in the subject line. Incomplete notices may slow things down.

What happens next

We review each complete notice and respond as quickly as we reasonably can. When a notice is valid, we take appropriate action, which may include blocking the reported links from being processed by XViewer, and we may let you know what we did. Please be aware that knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing can make you liable for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f).

Counter-notices

If you believe a link was blocked by mistake or misidentification, you can send a counter-notice to contact@xviewer.to that includes:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. The link that was blocked.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was blocked by mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district, or, if you're outside the US, any judicial district where XViewer may be found, and that you'll accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.

Other concerns

For privacy concerns about a post, such as personal information shared without consent, the fastest route is usually to report it directly to X, since removing the original also removes it from XViewer. You can also email us at contact@xviewer.to.
